Since 2017, the Data and Service Center for humanities (DaSCH) has been a member of the Swiss Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences. The main task of the institution is to operate a platform for humanities research data that ensures access to this data. In addition, the networking of data with other databases is to be promoted (linked open data), thus creating added value for research and the interested public.
As part of the BFI message 2017-2020, SAHSS (SAGW / ASSH) received a mandate for the DASCH. It operates the DaSCH in accordance with Article 11 (6) of the Federal Act on the Promotion of Research and Innovation (FIFG / LERI). To this end, it appoints a commission to oversee the strategic direction of the business and maintains a position of operational responsibility. The tasks of the Commission are governed by a mandate.
The University of Basel operates and maintains the work of the DaSCH on behalf of the Academy in the premises of the Digital Humanities Lab. The management of the DASCH has Prof. Dr. Lukas Rosenthaler and Dr. Peter Fornaro. The DaSCH in Basel is the national coordination office, the University of Lausanne operates a satellite of the DaSCH with its own infrastructure. The Academy and the DaSCH are seeking cooperation with other universities for the construction of satellites.
The national coordination office of the DASCH is financed by contributions from the federal government in accordance with the BFI message 2017-2020 as well as by contributions of the University of Basel in accordance with the agreement of the SAHSS (SAGW / ASSH).
