Photography, the Ottoman State and the making of Armenian Emigrants. Portraits of Unbelonging is a double-sided history of migration. Like each individual photograph, the project faces two directions: the Ottoman past and an American future. It is a history of mass migration on an intimate scale.
The DaSCH provides the long-term infrastructure as well the virtual research environment for this project.
Head of project: Zeynep Devrim Gürsel, anthropologist and Associate Professor in the department of Anthropology at Rutgers University. 2018-2019 NOMIS-Fellow at eikones.
