Join us for Love Data Week 2026! DaSCH is participating with a talk on the power of open standards and linked open data.
Where's the Data? Anywhere Standards Take You!
When: Thursday, February 12, 2026, 2:00–2:45 PM
Speaker: Rita Gautschy
Where: Online via Zoom
Abstract
Where is the data, really? This question is becoming less about physical storage and more about interoperability, standards, and connections. Rather than asking where data is stored — in which repository, institution, or country — open standards allow us to focus on how data is described, linked, and made interoperable across systems.
This talk will illustrate how linked open data enables data to "travel" across platforms, disciplines, and communities. It argues that openness is not just about access, but about connection — and that in a standards-based ecosystem, data does not need to be centralized to be useful.
